If a surfer wipes out on a big wave and gets sent so deep under water that the leash pulls tight to the surfboard. The force of the ocean threatens to pull the board under, but the board’s buoyancy makes for resistance from being submerged. The top half of the board sticks straight out of the water, resembling a tombstone.
I’ve never actually seen this before outside of youtube vids, and it only seems to happen in large surf. Bigger waves break in deeper waters so there are greater depths to be dragged to, I suppose.
